ARNOLD LOWREY.









Biography:
Arnold Lowrey has been painting for over 40 years, in watercolours, oils, acrylics and pastels. He has regular exhibitions of his paintings in the South Wales area and has had work accepted and exhibited in the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London. His paintings have also been selected for two Laing Painting Exhibitions in Cardiff where in 1995, his painting was chosen as the “ Guests' Choice “. In 2000, he won the Portrait Prize in the annual exhibition of the South Wales Art Society at Turner House, Penarth. The previous year, he won overall First Prize together with best acrylic, best portrait and best still life. In addition he was chosen as the public's choice in both the 1999 and 2000 Christmas Art Exhibitions at St David's Hall, Cardiff, which is part of Cardiff County Council He is was a painting demonstrator for major art material suppliers e.g. Winsor & Newton, and regularly provides painting demonstrations to Art Societies throughout South Wales and Southern England...//








...// He now runs weekly painting courses in the Cardiff area and residential courses in Torquay and the Cotswolds. Cardiff courses are currently held at Taffs Well Rugby Club. Over the past ten years, many hundreds of artists have attended his courses, which now range from Watercolour to Acrylics, Pastels and oils. Residential courses are held at The Farncombe estate, Cotswolds and the Toorak Hotel, Torquay. He has written four books on watercolour and acrylics published by Search Press Ltd. The first book is entitled Sea and Sky in Watercolour? published in 2001 and the second, Starting to Paint in 2002 and Ready to Paint in 2009. This second book is the first in a new series entitled “Watercolour Tips and Techniques?. His new book "Painting with Acrylics" which was published in 2006 He has made 21 DVDs on watercolour,pastels and acrylics. The subjects of his paintings vary from landscapes to still life, portraiture, abstracts etc. The priority in his work is good shapes and design combined with the use of both light and colour.
