Biography:
Svetlana Tiourina was born in 1964 in Perm, a densely populated city situated near the Urals Mountains in Russia, and relocated to Amsterdam in 1994. Until 2003 she worked as a writer and illustrator on a series of children”s books that achieved great international recognition and won her the United Nations Prize in 2000. Since 2004, she has devoted herself entirely to painting. Tiourina describes her work as having a basis in traditional academic foundations to which she has added her own insights, “insights not necessarily independent of my Russian soul.”
